Fresh from her success on BBC One’s The Voice, Lucy O’Byrne plays the role of Maria in this five star production. She became the competition’s runner up in 2015, impressing the nation and chart topper will.i.am with her stunning vocal range. Whilst award-winning TV and stage leading-man Andrew Lancel plays the dashing Captain von Trapp.

Blood Brothers

Written by Willy Russell, the legendary Blood Brothers tells the captivating and moving tale of twins, Mickey and Eddie, who, separated at birth, grow up on opposite sides of the tracks, only to meet again with fateful consequences.

Few musicals have received quite such acclaim as the multi-award winning Blood Brothers. Bill Kenwright’s production exceeded 10,000 performances in London’s West End – one of only three musicals ever to achieve this milestone. It has been affectionately christened the ‘Standing Ovation Musical’.

Lyn Paul returns to the iconic role she has played many times in the West End. First taking up the lead in 1997 and then as the show’s final Mrs Johnstone when it closed at The Phoenix Theatre in 2012. Lyn also starred in Bill Kenwright’s tour of Cabaret with Will Young in 2013 and rose to fame as a member of the pop group New Seekers whose numerous number one hits include ‘I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing’ which sold over 20 million copies.

The superb score includes Bright New Day, Marilyn Monroe and the emotionally charged hit Tell Me It’s Not True.

Blood Brothers is at the Edinburgh Playhouse, running from 5 to 10 March 2018. Get your tickets here.

Hairspray

Following on from its outstanding success in 2016, the West End and Broadway smash hit, musical comedy Hairspray is coming to the Edinburgh Playhouse in March.

Based on the 1988 iconic film of the same name, which starred Divine and Ricki Lake by cult filmmaker John Waters, Hairspray the musical transports audience members to the Baltimore of 1962. The story follows Tracey Turnblad, a big girl with big hair and an even bigger heart, on her mission to follow her dreams and dance her way on to national television. Tracy’s audition makes her a local star and soon she is using her new-found fame to fight for equality, bagging local heartthrob Link Larkin along the way.

With music and lyrics by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman and book by Mark O’Donnell and Thomas Meehan, Hairspray originally opened to rave reviews on Broadway in 2002 and went on to win eight Tony Awards.

Hairspray is at the Edinburgh Playhouse, running from 12 to 17 March 2018. Get your tickets here.

This spectacular, multi record-breaking and critically acclaimed touring production tells the incredible untold story of an unlikely, but profound friendship between two sorcery students.
