Fun Fact Friday – Smiling

Something as simple as a smile can change everything. From lifting your mood to simply being polite, a smile is one of the most powerful facial expressions we have. So powerful in fact, there is a day dedicated to smiling and today (6 October) is that day. Check out the benefits of smiling on World Smile Day. 😀

  1.  Smiling is contagious and according to science, neurons in the brain have a synchronizing feature keeping you in sync with the person you’re talking to.
  2. If you’re genuinely smiling, it’s like a form of medicine because it boosts your immune system. Get smiling.

  4. Distance is no barrier for smiles as humans can detect a smile from more than 300 feet away. In the good ol’ days, this was to help detect friend or foe.
  5. There’s no denying that smiling is a universal sign of happiness. A true genuine smile can be recognised by humans and even some animals.
  6. It’s easier to smile than frown.
  7. Smiling is easier but it actually uses more muscles than frowning – 26 muscles to be precise. Frowning is harder because the muscles aren’t used very often… hopefully.
  8. Looking for a promotion? Get smiling as people who smile are more likely to be promoted as it shows you’re interested and motivated in your work.
  9. Smiling is also good for our health as it can reduce blood pressure.
