Enjoy great days out at the seaside with the five-star Scottish Seabird Centre. The education and conservation charity re-opens on 5 April following completion of the first stage of their renovation programme.
Seabird Centre boat trips (in partnership with Seafari) offer the perfect opportunity to experience the amazing wildlife in the Firth of Forth first-hand.
Highlights include wildlife wonder, the Bass Rock, home to the world’s largest colony of Northern gannets and the Isle of May Nature Reserve, where thousands of puffins, terns, guillemots and razorbills return to breed each summer.
The Centre offers a range of different boat trips, so there’s something for everyone to enjoy. The Seabird Catamaran Cruise around Craigleith and the Bass gives visitors the chance to experience puffins, gannets and sometimes even dolphins, up close.
Isle of May landing trips are ideal for those interested in exploring the historic Nature Reserve. The Bass Rock landing experience is one for hardcore wildlife enthusiasts and photographers. While the Forth Ferry, returning in June, lets visitors enjoy great days out in North Berwick and Anstruther.
There is plenty to keep the little ones entertained in the Discovery Centre, with wildlife trails, 3D films, kids-zone and Easter holiday science shows.
Visitors can zoom in on the wildlife on the surrounding islands with the remoting viewing cameras and will even get a sneak peek at the new exhibits planned for later in the year.
The much-loved puppet and Live Science shows return this Easter.
Escape! is the new puppet show, for kids age 2+ where we meet Percy the Puffin trying to leave his burrow to escape to the sea to meet his. Older children (6+) can join Professor Egghead to find out how robots can help clean the oceans, in the fantastic Ro-bish Removals. Easter events run every day from 12 to 22 April and tickets are included with admission (free for Seabird Centre members).
Visit the website for more information on all these exciting events.
The Centre opens on 5 April with a fully refurbished café, giftshop and East Lothian’s only seaside sundeck.
