Scotland is known for its scenic routes. Every year its vast network of roads and motorways bring people from around the world to visit.
But, these routes are being diminished by litter thrown from cars. Not only does this ruin the views, it also poses a real danger to wildlife.
Every month, 50 tonnes of litter is abandoned on Scottish roadsides, and Keep Scotland Beautiful is trying to change this.
From 12-20 May, it’s the Keep Scotland Beautiful Week of Action. Communities, schools, authorities and businesses are all being urged to get involved and spread the campaign message – give your litter a lift, take it home.
Helping at school
As we celebrate the Year of Young People, nearly 70 schools are taking part in the Week of Action.
Primary schools from across the country are giving their litter a voice through a caption competition.
Children are urging road user to give their litter a lift by creating their own slogans, displayed alongside Keep Scotland Beautiful’s roadside litter characters.
The winners of the competition will be announced throughout the Week of Action on their social media channels.
Helping at work
If roadside litter impacts your business, sign up to show your support of the Week of Action. You can help raise awareness of the need to clean up Scotland’s roadsides by giving out leaflets to customers, available in the Roadside Litter Week of Action communications pack.
Helping in the community
Communities can add their voice to the campaign by organising a local litter pick.
You can also order campaign materials including posters and car litter bags.
